Operating one of the UK 's best 5G test beds and working across a range of exciting, high profile R&D projects with leading mobile businesses and other industry and academic leaders, you will be joining a very dynamic 5G team to deliver meaningful proof-of-concepts for 5G networks in new application areas, in particular in the creative, manufacturing and logistics sectors.
The role combines technical excellence, strategic evaluation and cutting-edge research capabilities focused on practical deployment, running, and involvement with advanced service development activities for 5G infrastructure with a particular focus on network virtualisation, mobile edge computing, orchestration and automation.
The role combines solid technical excellence, good understanding of the current state and direction of mobile technologies evolution, ability to undertake hands-on research and software development in key technology blocks of the 5G architecture.
This role is focused on Research and Development of the key components of 5G architecture, adaptations of them for proof-of-concept and demonstrations and delivering specific technical activities in various 5G projects in Digital Catapult.
This role is focused on the practical development of technology enablers contributing to H2020 5G-VICTORI project where Digital Catapult is responsible for designing and implementing a cross-domain orchestration platform (5G-VIOS) that will link multiple test facilities in the project
Understand the requirements of the project use cases
Understand the philosophy of the 5G-VIOS architecture, and implement or modify the functional components of the project
Integrate the developed platform with the 5G-VICTORI facilities
Implement and measure performance's KPIs and evaluate the functionality performance
Prepare and carry out oral presentations in technical and progress meetings
Write technical reports
MSc Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (PhD would be advantageous).
Understanding of 5G network architecture at a good level.
Good understanding with hands-on experience on Network virtualization concepts with emphasis on Openstack and/or Kubernetes deployments.
Experience on Service Orchestration and a good understanding of the ETSI NFV MANO architecture, with preference on ETSI OpenSourceMANO or ONAP.
Prototyping for PoC demonstrations.
Programming on Python, YML, Helm charts, Bash.
Network protocols analysis skills with hands-on experience on Network tools would be beneficial. Analytic approach on Network optimization with hands-on experience on optimization models and tools.
Research publications in top venues.
Participation in EU funded research projects would be beneficial. Practical experience with commercial network equipment would be advantageous.
Deployment and configuration of network elements such as Access points, base stations, switches, EPC would be advantageous.
