API Engineer

• Work with the team’s other developers, business analyst, product manager and architects to translate the architecture and requirements into working code.
• Actively engage and contribute to the team’s Scrum ceremonies such as planning, estimation, stand-ups and retrospectives.
• Develop and enhance new and existing applications in the Cloud and on premise, ensuring your quality code can pass through the code review and QA process.
• Build upon and improve the API gateway (Apigee) tool ensuring best practice is upheld while delivering an API product to be proud of.
• Write automation scripts and infrastructure as code modules using technologies like Javascript and tools like Terraform.
• Own the journey of your code from development through to production in order to ensure that we have performant reliable code in production.
• Log, monitor and propose enhancements to working code in production to ensure continued success.
• Work to best practices in source code management (Git), using the company source control tools and the standard processes.
• Complete documentation where required and ensure that this is appropriate for the target audience. This will include results of technology spikes, sprint reviews and decision registers.
• Participate in activities for the business and the team; they are your greatest supporters.

1. Knowledge of successful software development in either agile or structured project environments
2. Technical competence and experience in either NodeJs or C# .net and within web & API frameworks as well as knowledge of design principles and patterns.
3. Knowledge and experience configuring API Gateways like Apigee, AWS API Gateway etc.
4. Experience in authentication models, especially in APIs
5. Eagerness to work with Cloud (AWS) and serverless technologies.
6. Understanding or experience of working with databases, SQL and NOSQL.
7. Demonstrable experience using Source Control tools like GitHub.
8. Understanding of working with unit testing frameworks, and experience of integration testing and continuous integration tooling.
9. Knowledge and experience of SOA or microservice methodologies for software design and delivery.
10. Awareness and application of OWASP and security practices, especially around the REST API space.
11. Experience of working across in a global or regulated environment an advantage.
12. Good written & spoken English & interpersonal communication.
