Senior Data Scientist

Summary

The Senior Data Scientist is a key component in our company transition to a customer centric organisation and a digital division driven by customer understanding. Through the development of univariate and multivariate data analysis and modelling based upon existing and new big data sets, we will develop advanced and actionable customer insights to increase the efficiency of our marketing and ecommerce, increasing customer lifetime value and improving customer experience.

The successful individual will be a natural self-starter, able to tackle strategic business and customer problems through the use of data analysis often without a firm brief from the outset. Instead this requires the individual to shape the problem and then deliver the evidence to our internal and external partners and facilitate change. The person will need to be organised and able to perform multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, build and maintain relationships with leaders at all levels and own deliverables through to fruition. Crucial is the ability to work with big data, perform complex data mining and statistical analysis and communicate findings in a clear and compelling way. Given this area is relatively new within our company. The individual will need to work closely with the VP of Customer Insight in sharing and advocating data science across the organisation.

Role
To shape and develop a data analytics brief from a business or customer problem using knowledge from working within strategic, customer development or marketing teams
Organise and manipulate big data across many sources to shape the underlying information required to address complex problems
Utilise univariate and multivariate data exploration to develop statistical analysis within tools such as SAS, SPSS, R or similar plus in the future anticipated modelling within artificial intelligence tools.
Manage raw data effectively: importing, cleansing, transforming and organising for onward analytical purposes
Collaborate with data administration and data quality personnel to ensure data is stored securely, and is robust both in terms of architecture, completeness and quality.
Ensure that all data acquisitions, matches and analyses are handled properly as data security is paramount.
Creating networks with similar teams outside of our company and ensuring we are at the forefront of new technical solutions and approaches
Ensure data-driven insight work is coordinated and effectively managed across the many business functions
Communicate complex analytical findings to non-technical audiences across our company
Share technical and professional expertise with other members of the team as part of internal L&D.
Build well maintained models of customer behaviour.
Experience
Degree or equivalent in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, AI etc.)
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
Ability to take a business problem and be naturally inquisitive, investigating and challenging approaches to unlocking new potential through insight.
Strong analytical skills and judgement, working with large amounts of data and manipulating this data into customer insight ideally through SAS or similar data analysis tool
Experience of machine learning techniques including regression, classification, neural networks and clustering.
Strong statistical modelling skills to provide an internal capability for propensity and behavioural modelling
Experience of developing insight solutions with large data sets at the geographical, customer and product levels
Personally designing and delivering customer insight solutions and then taking this through to strategic change providing benefits for customers and the business
Strong communication skills with insight colleagues, internal and external stakeholders
