Network Engineer - Leeds - Contract

My client is a UK leader providing an online platform for trading and investments. They were launched over 20 years ago and provide retail investors with unbiased financial information along with the tools and trading environment they need to make business decisions.
They are looking for a Network Engineer for an initial 6 month contract to join the team and the purpose of this role is to provide support and management of the companies Network services.

The responsibilities of the role include:
• Maintaining the availability of service levels through the management of network components
• Management of network services and their capacity through regular housekeeping, monitoring, and forecasting.
• Providing on-site support and administration of production/test environments for the network infrastructure and applications within the remit of the Network Team.
• Maintaining currency of network components through patching and component lifecycle management. Alongside general ‘housekeeping’ of the technology estate (administration, patching, fix packs, monitoring, backups, etc.) this role will be involved in the development and rollout of new platforms, and improvements to existing ones.
• Working with 3rd party maintenance and service providers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
CUSTOMER SERVICE
• Working to a Service First Culture ensuring that IT does all it can to impact Customer and Employee satisfaction levels.
• Treat customers fairly at all times.
• Build and maintain close working relationships with key IT and business partners to ensure a collaborative working environment.

CONTROL (RISKS, FINANCIALS, PROCESSES)
• To proactively monitor system health in terms of availability, performance, and capacity – early identification and remediation of potential issues and rapid response and remediation of live incidents.
• Follow Incident Management processes including prompt escalation of faults and incidents.
• To plan and implement changes according to Service Management and Change Management processes.
• Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis and make recommendation to prevent repeating issues.
• Carry out house-keeping and maintenance activities for supported services – maintaining operational supportability, data security, and data integrity.
• Create and maintain operating documentation.
• Understand and work to IT Service Levels.

CHANGE
• Follow Service Management and Change Management processes.
• Keep up-to-date with infrastructure developments and contribute to future developments and roadmaps.
• Provide support and assistance to business and IT change projects – managing and prioritising own workload of service tickets and project tasks.

CORE CAPABILITIES:
• Strong Interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Previous experience administering and supporting specific Network technologies (including build, maintenance, administration, scripting, and improvement.)
• A proven working knowledge of enterprise technologies and their impact on a distributed network and the association with IT Service Levels.
• Strong technical problem analysis - conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis and make recommendation to prevent repeating issues.
• Experienced in working in a high-pressure, time critical operating environment.
• Time Management and Prioritisation.
• Change Management - to estimate, plan and implement changes according to Service Management and Change Management processes.
• Experienced in following Incident Management processes including prompt escalation of faults and incidents.
• Carry out house-keeping and maintenance activities for supported services – maintaining operational supportability, data security, and data integrity.
• Creation and maintenance of operating documentation to a defined standard.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:
The technical competencies for the role are described below though detailed expertise in every discipline is not required. This is not exhaustive and the ability to learn new technologies is a critical requirement of the role. Accreditations in any of the competences below, will be advantageous:
• Cisco Switches & Routers – strong technical understanding with 2 years’ experience of delivery & support.
• Palo Alto Firewalls including Panorama – strong technical understanding with 2 years’ experience of delivery & support.
• F5 BigIP configuration and administration (LTM, GTM, ASM, AFM, APM)
• Aruba Aps, switches & routers.
• IP Access Control Lists, VLAN’s, IP routing protocols.
• IPSEC based VPN’s and high availability protocols.
• Experience of VMware NSX would be advantageous.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Experience of working within a regulated environment.
• Experience of administering & supporting distributed networks including Cloud connectivity.
