Near Manchester
Up to £27k 15% Shift Allowance

Network Operations Engineer (NOC Engineer) required to join a market leading company based near Manchester.

My client is market leading in their field, based near Manchester, who are looking for an experienced NOC Engineer to join the team. Working within the Network & Infrastructure team, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining and improving the critical network infrastructure and processes, ensuring the maximum possible service availability and performance for their UK National Network. The role is shift based providing 24x7 support for their key services.

Experience:
• Experience working in an ISP, Telco or other Managed Services environment.
• Working within an ITIL based framework.
• Minimum 3 years' experience of working on network equipment in an ISP environment, a large NOC or other such company associated with networking.
• CCENT certified or equivalent.
• Basic understanding: IP Protocols (ICMP, UDP, TCP); IP filtering and firewalling; Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF); Ethernet (VLANs).
• Good working knowledge: BRAS / LNS / L2TP / DSL.
• Basic understanding: AAA platforms such as Radius and/or TACACS.
• Experience with Juniper, Foundry / Brocade, Cisco, Adva and Ericsson (Redback) are relevant.
• Data Centre environment.
• Knowledge Fibre and WDM systems.
• Knowledge of Openreach access products (MPF/SMPF, GEA, FCP, B-BBUSS) desirable.
• Basic Linux/UNIX skills desirable.

Skills:
• Able to analyse problems and conduct effective fault diagnosis and system recovery.
• Excellent communication both written and verbal including the ability to communicate well with people from a non-technical background.
• Capable of prioritising and managing own workload.
• Self-motivated.
• Capable of working under minimal supervision using own initiative.
• Keen to learn, develop own skills and help others develop.
• Interest in leading edge technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure stable and reliable network services (e.g. access products, service networks and core network etc)
• Day-to-day network and performance monitoring of the UK national network.
• Network troubleshooting and fault analysis; hardware troubleshooting and repair.
• Trouble ticket generation and response; carrier interface and escalations.
• Deployment and maintenance of network monitoring, analysis and reporting tools.
• Application of configuration changes via our change control systems and processes.
• Installation of network hardware and software.
• Liaising with and providing 3rd level support to the wider business divisions on singleton faults.
• Provide incident response and management during periods of network or service failures.
• Produce and maintain project documentation in line with our project processes
